Holywells Park & other Ipswich parks again recognised with Green Flag Awards

Ipswich has once again been recognized with the prestigious Green Flag Awards, as three of its parks have successfully retained their status. Bourne Park, Christchurch Park, and Holywells Park have all received this international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Ipswich Borough Council is celebrating this achievement, marking another year that these three parks have been honored. These accreditations are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team who maintain Ipswich’s green spaces, ensuring they can be enjoyed by both residents and visitors.

This year marks the sixth consecutive year that Bourne Park has earned Green Flag status. Christchurch Park has held this distinction for an impressive 18 years in a row, while Holywells Park has maintained its award for 16 successive years.

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, stated:
“Quality parks and green spaces make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest. Crucially, parks like these are these are free and safe spaces for families to socialise, for children to play, and for everyone to enjoy nature. They also provide important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.“

Councillor Lucy Trenchard, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Parks and Climate Change, commented:
“We are all delighted that Bourne, Christchurch and Holywells Parks have maintained their Green Flag status, together totalling 40 award-winning years. I’d like to thank our hard-working Parks team, community groups and volunteers who make them such special places. Everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their efforts and achievements, which sees us celebrating for another year!“

Bourne, Christchurch, and Holywells Parks are among 2,250 sites across the UK that have received official recognition as some of the country’s best parks through the Green Flag Award scheme. This scheme is managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under license from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. It annually acknowledges and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark for green space management throughout the United Kingdom and globally.
