In January a tree fell down and damaged the Holywells park boundary wall. The red brick wall is about 450 meters long and runs from the Nacton Road gate to the Bishop’s Hill entrance.
The wall has now been repaired by two specialist bricklayers. They used recycled bricks plus some of the old bricks on the inner wall, along with a lime mortar to ensure that the repair will quickly blend in as much as possible with the existing wall.
Local resident Mary Platten commented,
I was pleasantly surprised at what a good job the workman had done in repairing the wall. It was great to see them using recycled bricks and taking pride in doing a thorough job, which is such a rarity these days.
Mary is one of the longstanding members of the Friends of Holywells Park committee and has been a regular park user since 1980. So, how appropiate it is that January 1980 was the year that Pink Floyd were number one in the charts with the single “Another brick in the wall”!
