Holywells Park, along with Bourne Park, Chantry Park and Christchurch Park in Ipswich have all been awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award after achieving the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
The four parks are part of 2,391 parks in the UK to achieve this award.
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said:
“Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy. Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.”
Richard Bloomfield, a member of the volunteer group Friends of Holywells Park said,
“Holywells park is at the heart of the community for people who live on The Rivers Estate, the Rosehill area and some of the town centre fringes. In the latter area, many people live in flats or have small gardens and really appreciate the green space. No one has a bad word to say of the park and the abundant wildlife is amazing to have so near to the town centre.”
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by Keep Britain Tidy and recognises and highlights the country’s best managed parks and green spaces.
