The re will be a summer family day at Holywells Park in Ipswich, for the first time since lockdown, on Saturday June 24, 2023.
Holywells Family Day and Cobbold 300 celebrates the past, present and future of this beautiful park, on the 300 the anniversary of the Cobbold brewery, founded in 1723.
There will be live music, art, dance and exhibitions with more than a nod to the history of the park where the Cobbold brewing and banking family lived in the big house for five generations.
There will be classic cars from Suffolk Vehicle Enthusiasts Club and a special display from Ipswich Transport Museum. It will feature a rare, recently restored 1951 Ipswich Co-op electric coal lorry which delivered fuel to homes across the town.
The event is being presented by the Friends of Holywells Park in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council.
Robin Gape, chair of the Friends, said: “We want everybody, young and old, to join in the celebrations. This is a beautiful park which we can all enjoy today. The Cobbolds, who lived at Holywells, were very influential in the life and community of the town, as well as being employers and philanthropists.”
The event will see the launch of a new book, by the Cobbold Family Trust, and represented by Anthony Cobbold. Cobbold Ales and Tales has been written by author Mary Attwood. Mr Cobbold will be at the Ipswich Society gazebo.
Other guests will include radio presenter Mark Murphy and the Mayor of Ipswich, Lynne Mortimer.
Also making its debut at the event will be a new scale model of Holywells Mansion, which was demolished in 1962, which has been made by Ipswich model maker Stuart Hawkins. His previous projects include a model of Christchurch Mansion.
